5 star pencil, 3 star grip

I love the Quicker Clicker--particularly the original one. I have used them extensively and exclusively for many years at work, at home, and on the go. Writing is top notch. I am a pencil person. My preference is the .05mm. Like many of the other reviewers, I didn't care for the grip that was added. It felt too bulky, although I've become somewhat more accustomed to it over time. The first grip that Pentel added to the pencil was an uncomfortable smooth hard plastic that has since been modified with rubberized tread which is better--if it has to be there at all. The original version of the pencil was slim, sleek and professional in use. It remained in my hand as I went through my paperwork. I do prefer the side clicker to advance the lead over pencils that require pushing on the eraser. I also like the eraser on the Quicker Clicker over other mechanical pencil eraser versions. For me, the Quicker Clicker is the superior pencil.

The grip kinda ruins the old classic

I absolutely love the ACTUAL original Quicker Clicker, but the grip on this one kinda ruins it for me. The side advance and quality of construction are still there, but it's no longer the sleek machine that fits everywhere a pencil is supposed to fit., like pretty much any pen/pencil sleeve.

I have tried so many mechanical pencils, all of them failing me in less than a year. I don't know if it's just me, but even with other Pentel mechanical pencils, this seems to be the case. However, this pencil has already lasted me 2.5 years and I mean to use it for a long time more. Overall, best mechanical pencil I have ever had, and REALLY recommend it. :D

    14 Years of Excellence

I have been using the same Quicker Clicker pencil for 14 years.

    Long Lasting/ Excellent/Reliable

I've used this pencil since 1981. I worked in the college bookstore and was able to test many brands, styles and types. Never found one better. My only complaint...hard to find in everyday stores. The ONLY reason i needed others is because of loss. too bad there's no prevention of that...Mine tends to walk away some times, because its loved that much!
I managed a group of people that are now users of this pencil. Office orders always include these pencils, erasers and refills.
Will never happily use another pencil. Ever!..0.5mm is the sharpest. Oh...Want more colors though!

    The "Original" Was Better

I started using the Original Quicker Clicker back in the early to mid '80s as a field artillery surveyor to fill out our survey log books and do all the math computations and loved the pencil immediately. May even have one of those oldies stashed away someplace. Would definitely give the Original a 5 star (or higher!!) rating!! This new design is still a great mechanical pencil but I just don't like the rubber grippy thing. Pentel should do away with the rubber grip and go back to the original design. For that reason I'm giving this new generation a 4 star rating. But the Quicker Clicker design is still my all time favorite when it comes to mechanical pencils.

Excellent pencil ...... BUT ... the rubber grip is junk

The design and concept of this pencil is the best on the market for the price, and I'll always keep buying them. However, with everyday use, the rubber grip WILL NOT hold up, and in a few months comes completely off making the grip so awkward that it warrants discarding. The grip totally detaches from the plastic barrel. What a shame for such an otherwise excellent product.

This is the "New Coke" vs "Classic"

Except in this case, "Classic" didn't win out for some reason.

Rubber grip and change of profile ruined what was good about the predecessor. If you're lucky and somehow have a hoard of the old ones, those are now selling for $30 at online auction sites because they're no longer made. Perhaps they were made too good, because they only seem to need replacement if lost or stolen.

The rubber grippy thing? Kinda meh. Gets sloppy, wears to easily with use, changes grip profile too much, and has a rough spot. If it comes off completely, makes pencil a bit more awkward. -2 stars vs. the discontinued original.

    Great pencil

I had this pencil for a year and was great! It is extremely reliable and practical, but I lost it.:(

Will make you a loyal customer

A solid functional writing implement that will and has survived decades.
I have several of each of these sizes. I've used a 0.9mm for marking lumber for years, 0.5mm for manual drafting and 0.7mm pencils for general writing everywhere. Short of instances of clumsy catastrophic damage every one has survived intact for many years.

Never could stand lead advancement from the eraser: makes using the eraser problematic without accidentally advancing the lead and requires stopping work so that the lead can be advanced.

The Quicker Clicker allows you to just keep writing as fast and uninterrupted as you can.

I have used this same style mechanical pencil since I was in elementary school. It is the best mechanical pencil I have ever used, and is the only one I will buy. It is the only mechanical pencil I have used that the lead doesnt push back into the pencil when you press to hard.

*I come here now because I went to start my math homework and have found that I have lost my trusty 0.9mm Quick Clicker, she will be missed. R.I.P. Violet :( you will be forever remembered in our hearts.

    Best Mechanical Pencil Ever!

I love these pencils. They work well and last forever. Wish the rubber grip held up a little better tho.
